I was delighted to find out I was able to leave a review, for it is no exaggeration to say this woman has saved my life. When I thought all hope was lost, God answered my prayers and sent me Professor Birtle. After a long period of fighting and inaction, this lady took my case on when I had been diagnosed as only having weeks left to live. Overcoming many obstacles, she quickly organised many people and departments (on New Year’s Eve during a pandemic no less!) to give me treatment that has enabled me to survive the last 6 months and allowed me to still be here today. Now, I don’t know how long I’ve got, though for that matter how many of us does? But under her continuing care, I know I’ve got the very best chance and most importantly I now have hope........for that I will be eternally grateful. So to be clear, should you ever come to find yourself under the care of Professor Birtle and her team, be under no doubt you are getting the very best and have an Angel on your side. Or in other words...... 5 stars - would recommend! :)

I have just had my first appointment with Dr Birtle and from the first minute I felt assured. She spoke about my situation at home and how I was coping in general before discussing my prostate problem. Without looking at screens she knew all about my treatment and operations so far.The information and direction she took me through was clear . I’ve have just received her follow up letter which showed the same information but also mentioned my living situation which didn’t make me feel like just another patient . Thank you Dr Birtle.

After seeing two doctors and no answers I was rather apprehensive on meeting Alison ,but I can honestly say it was a revelation to have someone ,listen ,and help me with my diagnosis and the best treatment for my self, after seeing her I felt as if a burden had been lifted from me ,a clear plan and a very compassionate and understanding lady ,all be it she doesn’t like cockerels,I do have faith and trust in her expertise and knowledge on my condition I do feel now able to see a way forward and feel 100% positive about my future .I’m grateful to her for making a very difficult time a lot less frightening

Things don't always go to plan with prostate cancer treatment, I had the gland removed at The Christie in the summer of 2016 but the cancer had gone outside and therefore I was then sent to an Oncologist who is the lovely Dr Birtle (now the Professor). My first appointment with her at the RLI was in November and I am not afraid to say I was more than a little anxious, despite that she didn't hide or sugar coat my situation or the journey which I was about to begin. At the very end of this consultation she gave me a small card pointing to this site. One month later I saw her again and she mentioned the card, in response I told her almost all of the reviews were from patients who had been fighting this for 5 years or more and by way of motivation I told her if you keep me going then after this period I would be ready to give her my review, she didn't need any motivation and here I am still going strong. I have seen her now numerous times and more recently had telephone consultations and she comes across as a caring friend rather than my Oncologist and I can't thank her enough for keeping me alive and well. Alison you will recognise this I am blessed to have you as my Oncologist. If you have been diagnosed with Pca then ask to be referred to Alison, she is without doubt one outstanding and special Doctor and I hope she continues in her role for many, many years. God bless you Professor.
